(November 5, 2025 --Chicago, IL) -- Bank trust divisions appear to be underrerporting expenses, according to preliminary findings by Fiduciary Earnings & Expenses 2025 (FEE2025). The findings are based on comparisons of profit margins and return on assets for similar sized institutions. FEE2025 computes and compares performance of bank trust divisions (BTDs) to that of independent trust companies (ITCs) and to national trust companies (NTCs). More trust institutions reported plans to raise their fees in 2025 than did in 2024. In A.M. Publishing's 2025 survey of trust executives, 92 percent of respondents ranked meeting revenue growth targets as their number-one concern. These findings reflect the concerns of most BTD executives but not most ITC executives. Ninety percent of ITC executives ranked meeting revenue growth targets as a concern but not their number-one concern. Institution size also determined concern. Executives at large institutions (regardless of whether BTD, ITC, or NTC) did not rank meeting revenue growth targets as their number-one concern. A clearer picture of trust executives' concerns emerges when viewed by institution size and type. FEE2025 is expected to be released later in November.
