(May 10, 2023 --Chicago, IL) -- Midtier trust institutions, those with asset holdings between $1 billion and $10 billion, reported stronger gross revenue and asset performance than most of their peers. This was the finding regardless of whether the trust institution was a bank trust division or an independent trust company. Additionally, as an industry, trustees reported a lower average asset decline than did stock market indices. These are preliminary findings by A.M. Publishing's Trust Performance Report 2023. The final report is expected to be released late May.

The report is based on A.M. Publishing's Annual Survey of Trust Assets. The survey gathers and analyzes the data of some 1200 institutions, including bank trust divisions and independent trust companies. The survey has been conducted since 2001.

Preliminary analysis of the data suggest that trust institutions, in aggregate, saw assets holdings decline by nearly 8 percent as a weighted average. In comparison, the Dow Jones Industrial Average reported declines of nearly 9 percent, while the S&P 500 reported declines of nearly 20 percent.
